Draft, pending legal review. A plain-English draft, not final. It may change before Marker launches.

Privacy policy

Last updated: [date]

This policy explains what Marker collects, why, and what you can do about it. Marker is run by [Company legal name], [registered address] (“we”). Questions: [privacy contact email].

The short version

  • We store what you save, and the content of those pages and posts, so we can show it back to you, search it and organise it.
  • We send that content to AI providers to tag, summarise and search it.
  • The browser extension reads your bookmarks and your own social saves through your own signed-in session, only when you ask it to.
  • We keep screenshots and archived copies of the pages you save.
  • We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.
  • You can get a copy of your data and delete your account at any time (export from Settings on Pro, or ask us on any plan).

What we collect

Your account

Your email address, your password in hashed form (or the sign-in provider you choose), and your settings.

What you save

The links you save and their content: page text, titles, images, video, social posts with their captions and threads, places, files you upload, and the notes and highlights you write. So a save stays useful when the original changes or disappears, we store screenshots and archived copies of saved pages and keep copies of the media in saved posts.

What the browser extension reads

Once you pair the extension, it reads, only when you start a sync or turn on Auto Sync:

  • your browser bookmarks and folders, and open tabs when you choose to save them;
  • your own saved items on X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and Google Maps, using your own signed-in session on those sites;
  • a link you've copied, only when you press Save link from clipboard or its shortcut.

It never sees your passwords and doesn't record your browsing history.

Usage and technical data

The logs needed to run and secure the service, such as request times, errors and IP addresses, and counts of AI usage so plan limits can be applied. [List analytics and error-tracking tools, if any.]

Payment data

Payments are handled by our Merchant of Record, [provider]. They collect your payment details. We receive your plan, billing status and country, not your card number.

How we use it

  • To provide Marker: storing, showing, searching, filing and syncing your saves.
  • To process your content with AI: summaries, tags, categories, Space suggestions, Smart Actions, search indexing and answers in Chat with Library and the reader.
  • To keep the service secure, fix problems and apply plan limits.
  • To contact you about your account, billing and important changes.

We don't sell or rent your data. [Confirm: we don't use your content to train AI models, and our AI providers are contractually barred from doing so.]

AI providers and other processors

To summarise, tag and search your content, we send it to third-party AI providers. We also use providers for hosting, reading web pages, email and payments. They process data for us and only for these purposes.

ProcessorWhat forWhere
[Hosting and database]Storing your account and libraryTBD
[AI providers]Summaries, tags, categories, search, chatTBD
[Page-reading provider]Fetching the pages you saveTBD
[Email provider]Account and billing emailsTBD
[Merchant of Record]Payments, invoices and taxTBD

If you add your own AI provider key, content processed with that key goes to that provider under your own agreement with them.

Sharing

Your library is private. If you switch on a public link for a Space, anyone with the link can see that Space's saves until you switch it off. If you connect an AI tool through MCP, that tool can read your library with the token you gave it until you revoke it.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is open. A deleted save moves to Deleted and is removed [after N days]. When you delete your account, your data is deleted [within N days], except records the law requires us to keep, such as invoices. Backups are overwritten [within N days].

Your choices and rights

  • Get a copy of your data: export from Settings on Pro, or ask us on any plan.
  • Delete any save, or your whole account, from Settings.
  • Turn off Auto Sync, unpair the extension, or revoke AI-tool tokens at any time.
  • Ask to access, correct or erase your personal data, or object to how it's used, by writing to [privacy contact email].

Depending on where you live, laws such as India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 or the EU and UK GDPR may give you further rights. [Grievance officer name and contact, if required.]

Where data is processed

[Countries where data is stored and processed, and the safeguards for transfers.]

Security

The security page describes how your data is protected.

Children

Marker isn't meant for children under [age], and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app before the change takes effect.
