Help. Get set up, bring your saves in, and find answers.

Getting started

  1. Create an account and sign in to the web app.
  2. Install the Chrome extension and pair it (below). Your Chrome bookmarks start coming in.
  3. Bring in your other saves: social saves, Google Maps lists or a bookmarks file.
  4. Make a few Spaces for what you're working on, each with a line about what belongs there. New saves that fit are filed for you.
  5. Open Up next once a day to decide the saves Marker wasn't sure about.

New saves show “Tagging…” for a moment while they're read. A big first import can take a while to finish; you can use the library meanwhile.

Install and pair the extension

  1. Install Marker from the Chrome Web Store ([store link]). It works in Chrome and other Chromium browsers such as Edge and Brave.
  2. In the web app, open Settings and press Generate pairing code.
  3. Click the Marker icon in your browser toolbar, choose Connect, and paste the code. Each code works once.
  4. The popup now shows it's paired. Your bookmarks sync, and Ctrl+B saves the page you're on.

To save a link you've copied in any app, press Ctrl+Shift+9 while the browser is open. Change the shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

To disconnect a browser, unpair it in the popup or revoke it under Connected devices in Settings.

Import your saves

X, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook

Sign in to the site in the same browser, then start a sync for it from the extension. It reads your own saved posts through your session. Turn on Auto Sync and a post you save on Instagram, X or Facebook is copied into Marker a few seconds later.

Google Maps lists

Sign in to Google Maps in the same browser and sync your saved lists from the extension. Each list becomes a folder, with every place pinned.

A bookmarks file

Export bookmarks from Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge as an HTML file (in Chrome: Bookmarks › Bookmark manager › ⋮ › Export bookmarks), then upload it in Settings › Import. Folders come with it.

Files

Drag PDFs and screenshots straight onto the Library.

On your phone

Open Marker in your phone's browser and add it to your home screen: on iPhone, Share › Add to Home Screen; on Android, Install app. Once it's installed, share links to Marker from other apps. Chrome bookmarks you make on your phone also arrive through Chrome's mobile bookmarks.

Common questions

What happens if the original post is deleted?

Your save stays. Marker keeps the text, the media, a screenshot and an archived copy of the page when you save it.

Why was a save filed into the wrong Space?

Move it to the right one. Only confident matches are filed automatically, and close calls get a second opinion; anything still unsure waits in Up next.

Why does a save say the link is dead?

Marker checks links and marks ones that no longer load. Your saved copy is still there, and you can delete the save from the banner if you don't need it.

Does social sync use my password?

No. The extension never sees your passwords. It works inside the session you're already signed in to, and only when you ask it to sync or turn on Auto Sync.

Sync with a social site stopped working. What now?

Sites change often. Check you're signed in to the site in the same browser, open its Saved page once, and sync again. If it still fails, tell us which site.

Can I use my own AI key?

Yes. Add it in Settings. It's encrypted when stored and only its last four characters are ever shown.

How do I connect Claude, Cursor or another AI tool?

In Settings, under AI tools (MCP), make a token and add Marker to your tool with the snippet shown. The token is shown once; revoke it under Connected devices.

How do I export or delete my data?

On Pro, export from Settings › Export as Markdown (.zip), JSON or a browser bookmarks file. On Free, email us and we'll send a copy of your data. Delete your account from the bottom of Settings.

Does Marker work in Firefox or Safari?

The web app does. The extension is for Chrome and other Chromium browsers for now.
